Erik Danemar comes from an island in the north of Stockholm, Sweden. He is one of four children. His mother was a lawyer and then judge, and his father an economist. He was competitive at school, especially in sports.
He inclined towards languages and social sciences, although he studied a lot of natural sciences. He studied a year at the Stockholm School of Economics before doing his military service. After the Army, he studied Russian intensively for a year and came out to Russia for a stint working at the Swedish embassy before finishing his studies in Economics at Oxford.
He interned with Deutsche Bank in his time at Oxford and this led to an offer of work with the bank. After two years in London with Deutsche, he moved to Moscow on a permanent basis in 2005. He works here now, again at Deutsche Bank, as an equity analyst in research. Erik is married with a Russian wife.
