Samir Mastaki is from Italy. His father is Moroccan and his mother is Italian. To begin with, he was interested in technical subjects, but later developed an interest in history and economics.
At 17 he won a scholarship to spend two years in New Mexico at the United World College of the American West, an educational program where he met people from all over the world, learnt to look after himself, and hiked the Grand Canyon. He read Economics and Russian at university.
He stayed in Yaroslavl in 2003 as part of his course. After graduating from Middlebury College, he worked at Morgan Stanley in both New York and London, before coming back to Russia in 2008 to join the technology investments team at Onexim Group.
He is now a managing partner at Indigo Capital Partners, a tech and special situations investment fund, which he co-founded together with four partners.
