Stephen Newman was born in Canterbury in the south of England. When he was three his family moved to Kuwait for four years where his father was working as an engineer.
The family then moved back to Canterbury where Stephen finished his education. As an outdoor person, when he finished his A-levels he got a job working on an apple farm, which is where met his first Russians.
They were working picking apples on a student programme. This resulted in his first trip to Russia after which he came back and spent a whole year working here.
On his return to England, he determined to study the language formally and this decision led to a degree in Russian from Nottingham University. Since graduation, he has been permanently resident in Russia.
He is married with a Russian wife, and they have two children. Stephen and his wife have a construction project management company called Q1 Project Management.
