To be the friend of a Russian person is a true honour

sophia-tupolevSophia Tupolev was born in Moscow but her parents emigrated to the U.S. when she was just two and the family settled in Boston. She grew up speaking Russian at home, and there was English and Hebrew at school.

She was naturally strong at languages and she learnt French as well before going on to study Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies at university. She came out to Russia in 2008 – initially just to visit relatives – and has been based here since.

She runs her own boutique translation house, called Swordpen (sword-pen.com), which provides translation, editing and writing services to Russian and international companies.

She is also passionate about her community project, a Russian-speaking circle of expats and locals, which meets every Saturday (keytomoscow.com).
